Future Forum Upgrade
« on: March 25, 2013, 05:22:58 PM »
Hey guys,

Just letting you all know that i have started looking into doing an upgrade of this forum to the newer SMF v2 and as such i will be putting the forum into Maintenance Mode at times.

Fortunately i am on the other side of the world for the major part of all the members, so the time that i will be performing the work will be between 2am and 5am UK time.

Being that my work hours are a bit all over the place i'm not able to provide a specific date that i will be performing the maintenance, but the time will be as above... so if you notice the forum in Maintenance Mode you will know why.

At the moment i will be doing some backups and testing on a test site, and if all goes well i will perhaps be able to perform the upgrade next month.

If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask here.

Cheers,
Franco

Can't say i have a straight answer for you there Mike... i mean why do we upgrade computer software or even our cars... r/c or 1:1 for that matter.  Well i tend to think because we want and possibly expect something better.  With the SMF software i think that for most members it will be just be cosmetic, ie the look of the forum... but for mods and admins i think it will be better support and better security.

Just letting you know that the forum will be going to Maintenance Mode in a few hours...  Should not be too long at all.

Funny... because i actually delayed it at least an extra hour.... heaps of you UK guys were still on at 2am, plus being a public holiday more people also on here... so i waited i short while.

But, anyway... did what i planned to do and switched back to normal mode.

There's a very good chance that the new forum will be up and running this weekend, so expect it to be down during this time guys.

Shouldn't have any dramas... done it all on a test site first, so should all be good  ;)
